The 2006 Comic Book Death Pool
There will be some sort of a prize for the winner - I'm going to look around and see who will donate a "2006 Comic Book Death Pool Winner" sketch for the cause. Maybe some free books too, I got plenty of them I would pass on. Just a whole party-pack of stuff. But it should be fun either way.
Ask questions here. Ignore anything not CBDP related, that's from this story where I announced the Death Pool. Depending on how many people sign up I'll find a forum that will host our official CBDP trash talking and discussion.
1) Choose ten comic book characters that you think are going to die in a comic book that is IN STORES between September 1st, 2005 and August 31st, 2006. If the character is resurrected before August 31st, 2006 you do not get the points for that kill. Alternate universes only count if they break the internet in half. The character must exist before September 1st, 2005 - he cannot be some upcoming plot device designed to die. I have the right to reject any selection that I deem stupid.
2) Scoring will be: one point for every correct death and ten bonus points if no-one else picked the character. In addition, if the character chosen is within the top 4 comic companies of 2004 (Marvel, DC, Image or Dark Horse), your score for that character will be multiplied by two. There's some logic here, check it out:
      a. I'm all for independent comics, we all know that. But someone can easily pick ten obscure characters from some Xeroxed book that he (or a friend) created (or one with a known outcome) and get ten points no problem. With this method, say someone picks She-Hulk and she dies and no-one else calls it, 22 points.
      b. If someone manages to pick a mainstream character that no-one else picks and gets it right, that's skills, son.
3) Creators can not pick characters from their own books. So, say Robert Kirkman wants to join. He can't pick Lori even though we all know that bitch is going to bite it when her zombie spawn child chews his way through her uterus.
4) All entries must be emailed to me at jrod @ jasonrodriguez dot com with the subject "COMIC BOOK DEATH POOL". Please include your name and a website if you want to, I'll probably make a leader board and stuff.
5) Rules are subject to change at my discretion. I'm sure something will come up that will need someone to drop the hammer. I'll be playing for fun but not for the competition.
6) Not a rule, per se, if a character dies and is on your list, feel free to send me a reminder email.
